At left, a voter signs in at Sanders Clyde Elementary School in downtown Charleston, a predominantly African American neighborhood. On Saturday, 58 people had voted by 9:45 a.m., compared to just six at the same time the week before. Overall, 422 people voted at the school on Saturday, compared to 75 the week before.

At right is a photo taken at Stiles Point Elementary School on James Island, where about 150 voters cast ballots by 11 a.m. — about one fourth of those who voted at the same time the week before. Overall, 527 people voted at the school on Saturday, less than half of the 1,242 who voted a week earlier in the GOP primary. Photo by Andy Brack.
