CALENDAR, June 27+: Carolina Day, Yappy Hour, Reggae Nights

00_calendarCarolina Day lecture: 5 p.m., June 28, Heyward-Washington House, 87 Church St., Charleston.  Join Carl Borick, director of The Charleston Museum, for a discussion of the home’s original owner, Thomas Heyward Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  There will be a tour during this celebration of a 1776 Patriot victory over the British. Reservations are required.

Yappy Hour:  4 p.m. to 8 p.m., July 7, James Island County Park, James Island.  Dogs and their owners can have fun at the park with other pets.  Music and beverages will be available during the off-leash dog park event.  Cost is free with gate admission ($2 per person).  Other Yappy Hours will be on Aug. 4, Sept. 15 and Oct. 13.  More info.

Reggae Nights concert with Selah Dubb:  8:30 p.m., James Island County Park, James Island.  Gates open at 7:30 p.m. for music by Selah Dubb, a trio formed more than 20 years ago that brings a high-energy vibe with modern surf-reggae-rock music.  Tickets are $10 per person at the gate.  Gold Pass holders and kids under 13 are free.  More info.

Bird walks: 8:30 a.m. to noon, every Wednesday and Saturday. This is the time of year that a great variety of migrating birds fly through the Lowcountry so what better time to take part in one of the regular early morning bird walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel. Pre-registration is suggested. Cost is $10. Walks also are conducted on James Island and Folly Beach. Learn more online.
