FOCUS: Spring training photo essay

Staff reports  |  Live professional baseball will be back in Charleston when the RiverDogs have their home opener April 7 at Joe Riley Stadium, followed by six straight home games.

In anticipation of opening day, we thought you’d enjoy some photos from two Major League spring training games from the Grapefruit League in Charleston.

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles, March 26, Sarasota, Fla.

The Orioles’ stadium was outstanding.  The beer was cold.  The sun was hot.  The teams scored a combined 24 runs as the Orioles slammed 4 homers to whack the Red Sox 16-8.  More.  Some photo highlights:

Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees, March 27, Tampa, Fla.

The Yankees’ Steinbrenner Field was big and kind of a mix between a gulag and a concrete corporate headquarters.  Again, the beer was cold and the weather was warm and humid.  The Twins beat the Yanks 5-2.  More.
