Staff reports | Bring your chairs or blanket and your love of music with the opening of the new Johns Island Concert Series on May 1 at Johns Island County Park. The May 1 concert will feature the shag and beach music of Vinyl Daze , followed by the reggae sounds of Mystic Vibrations on June 5 and the Motown sounds of The Legacy on June 10. For each show, gates open at 6 p.m. with music beginning at 7 p.m. Shows end by 9:30 p.m.
Staff reports | If there’s one thing that the coronavirus pandemic has done, it’s made people get outside more often. The perfect testament is the West Ashley Greenway, which seems busier than ever.
But the upside of more use also means there’s more trash and wear on what essentially is a walking park that stretches for miles.
This photo essay shows conditions along the greenway at various West Ashley intersections with city streets.
If you want to let the city know what you think about its parks, the city is undertaking an update to its comprehensive plan (see news briefs), which includes seeking input about parks and recreation.

Staff reports | Charleston International Airport had 7 percent more people heading to one of 18 non-stop destinations in the first four months of the year, compared to last year in what is a traditionally slower traveling season. In the same period, 5.6 percent more people flew into the airport.

For some, such as Charleston graphic designer Sara Dwyer, last week’s Mystery Photo was pretty easy. It was a shot of flowers in Millennium Park in Chicago with skyscrapers looming in the background.
Above is a photo of officials from MWV Specialty Chemicals & Community Development and Land Management presenting a check for more than $1 million to the Trident United Way. MWV is the first company in Lowcountry history to raise at least a million dollars for the charity.
