CALENDAR: Tickets on sale for new local, social-distanced concert series

Staff reports  |  You now can get tickets to a new social-distanced concert series, Safe Sounds at Firefly, that starts June 12.  It will feature local musicians during 13 shows over seven weeks on Fridays and Saturdays. The shows will include live music, Firefly cocktails and local food trucks.

Staff reports  |  The South Carolina Aquarium, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, and the Charleston Water Taxi have announced a new, joint promotion: the Charleston Waterfront Pass. For the first time, the three organizations have partnered to create a special pass that is perfect for families and visitors who want to see two of the top Charleston-area attractions and enjoy a boat ride across the harbor.

GOOD NEWS: Park for two hours for free in Charleston Nov. 24-Jan. 1

Staff reports  |  The city and county of Charleston are offering two free hours of parking at participating garages during the holiday season, starting on Thanksgiving and ending on New Year’s Day.

Click the link above to find out how to print the voucher. (Hard copies of the voucher will be a part of local water bills.)

Garages participating in the “holiday magic” present to area shoppers include the those at the visitor’s center, 34 St. Philip St., Concord-Cumberland, East Bay-Prioleau.  According to the flyer, “additional automated garages are participating,” but you won’t be able to see a list of them until later this week at this link.

GOOD NEWS: City launches online platform for boards, commissions

Staff reports | With more than 40 boards and commissions, the city of Charleston has long encouraged independent citizen oversight and participation in local government—at least in theory, according to a press release last week.

But with the debut of Boards+, a new city website that allows citizens to view the members, duties and actions of city boards, committees and commissions and to apply for open positions as they become available, that theory is now becoming a reality for residents throughout the Charleston area.
