GOOD NEWS: Clemson to host world energy conference her Nov. 12-14

Staff reports | Clemson University will host the world energy conference for the first time in the United States in November in North Charleston.

The IEEE Electronic Power Grid (eGRID) Conference , which will take place Nov. 12-14, will unite several of the globe’s leading energy experts from government, industry and academia so they can share ideas, problems and solutions to the planet’s energy challenges.

BRACK: S.C. needs more environmental courage, not cowardice

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher | With so much that could be done to protect the South Carolina’s special places and put the state on a stronger, more renewable energy footing, you may sometimes wonder whether we just have too many environmental cowards.

Maybe that’s a bit harsh. But look at some recent stories that show that technology exists to transform how we power our economy from the traditional dirty oil and coal to a blend of renewables plus nuclear power with natural gas as a backup for peak usage.

BRACK: More energy options are a good deal for consumers

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher | An energy revolution is underway in South Carolina and you may not even realize it. Just look at recent news headlines:

Wind energy. Federal regulators have identified almost 1,200 nautical square miles of the South Carolina coast that have the potential to produce wind energy. Within a decade, depending on the regulatory process, sea-based turbines could be generating power much like offshore wind fields in the North Sea.
