Staff reports | Charleston residents can submit online comments through May 3 to a proposal that calls for construction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Ashley River to connect the peninsula and West Ashley. The Ashley River Crossing project seeks to provide a safe connection and increased access to the peninsula for bicyclists and walkers who live in West Ashley, where nearly half of the city’s residents live.

Staff reports | Soldiers’ Angels Hunger Relief Program on Friday hosted a Veteran Mobile Food Distribution in the Hagood Stadium parking lot of The Citadel to help provide food assistance to more than 200 low-income, at-risk and homeless veterans from the Charleston-Area. The distribution was conducted in partnership with The Citadel and the Lowcountry Food Bank. Also in this section is Good News about an Easter Egg Hunt at Magnolia Plantation; Times for giving input into a new West Ashley plan; a big gift from Jersey Mike’s; a national award for a local lawyer; Charleston Stage’s new season; and National Library Week.

With as much water as we’ve had in recent months, there have been lots of new ideas for photos, such as this reflection of the bottom of a warping wood fence in West Ashley.
Thursday night’s sunset was simply spectacular with rich, deep pinks and oranges. It looked as if the sky were on fire.
