BRACK: Haley’s new book is craven plea for political relevance

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  Former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley offers a craven mush of platitudes in a new policy book that is little more than a painful cry for political relevance.

As former President Donald Trump’s enabler in the United Nations where she served as U.S. ambassador, Haley brings together 16 essays on domestic and foreign policy in “American Strength: Conservative Solutions Worth Fighting For.”

FOCUS, Saul: Why telling the truth is so important

FOCUS, Saul: Why telling the truth is so important

By Dr. Robert Saul, special to Statehouse Report  |  Truth-telling is an essential skill for personal life, for interpersonal social interactions, for community activities and for governmental decision-making.

This obviously goes without saying, but I would argue that we are suffering from some of the recent ill effects of “less than truth-telling.”

Before everyone starts pointing fingers at each other or at the other political party, let’s settle back and just be honest with each other.  Truth-telling can be hard at times (it has consequences) and listening to truth-telling can be hard at times (it can change our thoughts and actions). And it indeed takes a good deal of perseverance.

Truth is not in the eye of the beholder.  Truth is a series of facts that often need to be proven or investigated.  Truth is not an opinion.  Truth is not a series of alternate facts because a series of alternate facts is a series of untruths. The search for truth can be frustrating but eventually leads to the correct way to live and to conduct oneself.

BRACK: Return to government dullness lessens national anxiety

BRACK: Return to government dullness lessens national anxiety

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  The relative quiet on social media over the last month has been so loud that it’s still a shock.

Ever since Twitter cut off former President Donald Trump’s daily outlet of rage, there’s been a noticeable chilling of fractiousness in the country.  Add to that a new president who is taking bold action on several long-ignored fronts and we find an America that is turning its back on constant confrontation and the politics of petty personalism.

BRACK: It’s time for Trump to go

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  Donald Trump is not a Boy Scout.  In fact, he represents just about everything scouts are not supposed to be.

While the reputation of the scouting movement has been tarnished by scandal in recent years — far less scandal than that in Trump’s Washington — scouts are taught to aspire to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.  These values are the tenets of the Boy Scout Law.  More than 40 years after being a scout, these teachings remain ingrained.

BRACK: Don’t get conned on postal service, election process

By Andy Brack, editor an publisher  |  Don’t let yourself be conned by the Con Man in Chief:  Postal workers will deliver your mailed-in ballot just fine, thank you very much.

In fact, President Donald Trump, who unpatriotically has been denigrating the U.S. Postal Service, believes in mail-in voting so much that he’s going to vote (wait for it) by mail.

BRACK: Three months before national election, Trump is scared

BRACK: Three months before national election, Trump is scared

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  Blustery Donald Trump is scared he’ll lose the November presidential election.  He’s mortified of being called the worst thing in the book:  The biggest loser.

On Thursday as three presidents and the nation remembered the consequential life of U.S. Rep. John Lewis at an Atlanta funeral, the current president of the United States  schemed to get into headlines by actually suggesting something expected in banana republics — not our democracy.  He had the gall to float the idea that the November election should be postponed.
