BRACK: Scott may face 2022 challenge from his own party

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  So what’s a Republican U.S. senator from South Carolina supposed to do to keep MAGA-hat conservatives mollified?  Particularly after voting against President Trump during certification of the presidential election that led a mob to storm the Capitol?

BRACK: Parasite ad may backfire to help Graham

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |  It’s gotten so bad in the caldron of American politics that  you wonder whether people are itching to argue about the color of the sky.

“It’s blue,” one might say. “No,” says another.  “It’s orange.  I saw it on TV in Oregon.”

“You’re both wrong, it’s black.”

In truth (real truth, not fake truth), all three are correct.

BRACK: Graham to get mute button for 6 months

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  | Now is the perfect time to go on a media diet of one of our U.S. senators, Lindsey Graham.

Graham’s sycophantic bad karma isn’t needed these days.  For the next six months, I’m taking a vacation from Graham and his increasingly irrelevant rhetoric.

BRACK:  Is Washington reaching a tipping point with Trump?

BRACK:  Is Washington reaching a tipping point with Trump?

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher  |   Are congressional Republicans in Washington reaching a tipping point over the continuing political theater and water-tortured presidency of Donald Trump?

If recent public comments by prominent South Carolina Republicans are any indication of the diminishing stature and respect in which Trump is held in Washington, then the president should be worried.  Despite his party’s control of Congress, the hyper-sensitive, Twitter-impaired Trump can’t seem to climb out of a Washington swamp of his own making to be a player in promoting his agenda.  For the first time in my lifetime, the president seems like a B-team sideline player watching a game being played on a muddy field in the rain.  None of it is pretty.

BRACK: New statue of Hollings captures his spirit, leadership, energy

BRACK: New statue of Hollings captures his spirit, leadership, energy

By Andy Brack, editor and publisher | Sculptor Rick Weaver captured the body language of Fritz Hollings just right in a new statue unveiled Monday as former colleagues heaped praises on the retired senator, now 95.

Three things stand out in the bronze figure – the warm, but determined, look on Hollings’ face; how his left hand is grasping a rolled-up document; and, most notably, an outstretched right hand, a familiar gesture to many of the senator’s former staffers and friends.

“I asked him what he felt was the quality he possessed that allowed him to succeed in his work,” Charlottesville, Va., sculptor Weaver said in the ceremony program. “He said very quickly, ‘My ability to make friends.’ So in subtle ways, I tried to show that – his hand gesture, him turning to face someone. I wanted to convey how actively engaged he was all his life.”

BRACK: Saturday wedding was refreshing, spiritual

BRACK: Saturday wedding was refreshing, spiritual

By Andy Brack | Saturday was a nice day for a white wedding.

It was a Chamber of Commerce afternoon — clear blue skies, relatively low humidity, a breeze to keep gnats and mosquitoes away.

Six dozen people crowded into white chairs next to blooming rose bushes. They sipped wine, strawberry-infused water and craft beer as the 5 o’clock hour approached. In the background, a fountain showered in a pond making the ambient sounds of a summer shower. Blue hydrangeas flanked the couple as a Lutheran priest intoned comforting Bible readings about love and gave a short sermon about the day-to-day joys and challenges of marriage.
