CALENDAR: Holiday Festival of Lights returns in November

Staff reports  |  The annual Holiday Festival of Lights kicks off this year with a two-day non-competitive fun run and walk on Nov. 10-11. After the run, the 32nd annual Holiday Festival of Lights will open in the James Island County Park Nov. 12 and run through Dec. 31. Visitors can drive through the impressive three-mile light spectacle with more than 750 illuminated displays.

Hort Harvest:  9 a.m. to 4:30p.m., Nov. 11, Magnolia Gardens and Plantation, Charleston.  The attraction and Charleston Horticulture Society will present eight nationally-known gardening experts during this design, garden and grow event.  Admission to the plant sale and produce sale is free.  Garden admission is required for presentations and demonstrations.

FOCUS:  Holiday Festival of Lights starts this week

Staff reports  |  It’s already that time of the year again – time to enjoy the dazzling annual display at the Holiday Festival of Lights at James island County Park. 

The 28th edition of the annual attraction opens Friday, Nov. 10, and will feature more than 700 bright, beautiful light displays of all shapes and sizes every night through Jan. 1, 2018. And starting Nov. 13, you can get $5 off the price of admission if you visit in the evenings from Mondays through Thursdays with a can of food for the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Staff reports | Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver a keynote address 3 p.m. Sunday during the 44th annual Martin Luther King Tri-County Ecumenical Service, which will be at Morris Street Baptist Church, 25 Morris Street, in Charleston. It’s one of several events scheduled through Jan. 19 in South Carolina’s largest annual tribute to King, an event coordinated by the YWCA of Charleston. Also in Good News: Legislature to convene; Discounts at Magnolia; Festival of Lights is nation’s third-best.

Featuring an estimated 2 million shimmering lights, Charleston’s most popular holiday event is open nightly at James Island County Park Nov. 13, 2015, through Jan. 3, 2016.

More than 4 million people have toured the Holiday Festival of Lights, which is hosted by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission at James Island County Park. The event has received many awards and mentions in publications throughout the country, and the three-mile driving tour delivers more every year.
