Dave Brown, Charleston: “Do we really think that Columbia can do it better than D.C.?”

Dave Brown, James Island: Never knew about Esau Jenkins. But now I do. I am wiser and certainly better informed as a result of your article. On behalf of all subscribers, thank you.
Jim Rex, Great Falls, S.C.: Your tribute to former Mississippi Gov. William Winter serves as a powerful reminder that much can be achieved by a single individual when he or she persists in their belief that our “better angels” can prevail. Also: Letters on carriages, photos.
Dave Brown, Daniel Island: “My compliments on your thoughtful and incisive editorial included in the 5/30 issue. You have provided a service to the electorate by reminding people how the words “conservative, liberal, and progressive” have come to vary from their original meaning. “
Today’s issue includes two letters on a recent commentary about whether to keep Confederate statues on town squares. One suggests to keep ’em up to continue to be reminded of the past; another says to put ’em in a museum. Also, a letter on help for first responders.
Responding to the recent letter writer who wrote to laud Gov. Haley’s position to keep out Syrian refugees, I write to remind your readers that whatever your position on the Syrian refugees issue, the decision at the end of the day is not one made by individual states.
Congratulations on the new look of Charleston Currents. It takes courage to try to improve something that really wasn’t broken.
Your comments [Brack, 1/5] that imply that South Carolina Republicans don’t support President Obama because he’s (egad!) black are insulting and offensive.
