If you haven’t been to downtown Charleston lately from West Ashley, you’ll soon find out that the roadway looks a little different. Instead of four lanes of vehicles crossing the Ashley River into Charleston, there are now three. The outside lane has been partitioned into a walk/bike lane to test how traffic will react. Also: two winners, a scholarship, water parks and a new film.

For this, we turn to CountyHealthRankings.org, a collaborative tool by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute that offers accessibility to data to seek to build awareness of factors that influence health across the United States and engage leaders to create change to make places healthier.

County now offers Smart911 service for free

County now offers Smart911 service for free

The Charleston County Consolidated 9-1-1 Center has launched “Smart911,” an innovative tool to enhance emergency 9-1-1 responses. It allows citizens to create a free Safety Profile for their household that includes any information that they want 9-1-1 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency. The service is free.

Ruff: Charleston County protects more greenspace in 2014

During 2014, the Charleston County Greenbelt Program helped facilitate the protection of 200 acres of rural landscapes through the purchase of conservation easements and the purchase of 250 acres that will be open to the public for recreation, farming and desired water-related activities. The program made strides toward meeting the public’s wishes through the approval of 16 projects totaling $6.5 million.
