GOOD NEWS: Airport predicts a banner year of travel in and out of Charleston

Staff reports  |  The number of people flying in and out of Charleston International Airport in October increased 13 percent over 2017. That puts the airport on target to exceed 4 million passengers by the end of 2018.

“It has been an exciting year at Charleston International Airport,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., Executive Director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority.  “Our legacy air carriers are busier than ever and our new airlines are receiving great support from the Lowcountry.”

WHAT WE LOVE: Just about everything!

Gary Crossley of Charleston sent in a list of what he loves about the Charleston in which he was born.  He loves it so much, he tells us, that he even assigned the name Charleston as his son’s middle name. Gary’s list of reasons for loving Charleston (the city):

** The city is not too big or not too small.
** The cobblestone streets which had pirates like Blackbeard/Edward Teach and Stede Bonnet roaming back a hundred plus years ago….

Bill Hawker, a photojournalist from Sydney, Australia, toured the area last week and offers these snapshots of what he saw in the Charleston area. Hawker, who has just completed a semester of study at the University of Texas to wrap up a master’s degree in communication, says he’ll send more photos from summer visits to Europe.

Staff reports | Hands Across the Sand: About 100 people joined hands Saturday to “draw a line in the sand” and support efforts to cancel plans for Atlantic offshore drilling and to raise awareness of the dangers of seismic airgun blasting off the East Coast.
