KAYNARD: A great way to end Thanksgiving

By Michael Kaynard, contributing photographer  |  One of the most important things about my being a photographer has been when people enjoy my work, and seeing the happiness it brings. The money has never been as important.

Now that my selling days are quickly coming to a close, I received one of the nicest compliments about my work.

A lady who has bought my work in the past stopped by to tell me she was in town to visit a friend at the VA (hospital). She loves my gator and turtle photo and did not have any money with her.  I had some small postcards with the image on them and told her to take some to the patients at the VA. She stopped by today to let me know how many smiles the pics got.  She also told me her friend had been taken to hospice and was resting.  His family had been camping in the waiting room at hospice for the past few days and went home to freshen up. The nurses came in and changed the bedding, gown and shaved her friend.  She was sitting on the edge of the bed freshly coiffed when the family returned.  They said hello to him.  He perked up a bit, smiled and passed.

16-1128-gatorShe said he was a big tattooed guy who did trade work. She equated him to the tough gator.  She said she was more like the meek turtle.  The picture obviously meant a lot to her.  She wanted the get two of my gator/turtle pics to frame and put in the waiting rooms at hospice.  She wanted future families to have something light to smile about.

These are the moments we artists live for.  I never knew how much happiness that pic would bring people.  I am thankful that I was able to capture an image that created so many smiles. What a great ending to my Thanksgiving holiday.
