Where in the world might this recent (pre-Matthew) photo by Steve Lepre have been taken? Send your best guess to: editor@charlestoncurrents.com — and make sure to include the name of the town in which you live.
Last week’s Mystery Photo should have been familiar to anyone who travels periodically on upper King Street in Charleston. The blue-bricked building is Bluestein’s, a store built in 1913. George Graf of Palmyra, Va., points out that “Bluestein” is an Americanized version of the German “Blaustein,” which can be translated as (drum roll, please) “blue stone.”
Hats off to Graf and all across the Lowcountry who correctly identified the building in the picture taken by Michael Kaynard of Kaynard Photography: Stephen Yetman of North Charleston; Charles Boyd of Hanahan; Glenda Nemes and Joe Mendelsohn, both of Charleston; Chris Brooks of Mount Pleasant; Charlie Morrison and Fred Sales, both of James Island;
