Thanks for running this incredible story of Mr. [Esau] Jenkins. We have passed Johns Island many times on the way to the beach. Not until we slowed down and started to explore historic markers and state signs, rather than blow by them, have we discovered even more rich S.C. history.

Please continue to highlight South Carolinians featured in new Smithsonian museum, such as Nikky Finney. Who else for our state is there? Hope school desks, and Septima [Clark]? Modjeska [Simkins]?
