REVIEW: Big Little Lies

A novel by Liane Moriarty

00icon_recommendedJane Chapman is a young, single mother moving into a new community with her inscrutable little boy, hoping to start a new life. She leaves behind a hurtful past full of secrets that eventually unravel in the novel as she is taken under the wings of her new friends, Madeline and Celeste. But her past is not the only thing that unravels.

Madeline Mackenzie is a feisty, no nonsense divorced mother of two girls whose ex-husband and new wife live in the same community. The couple’s daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest daughter which makes school functions a place of uneasy awkwardness. And if that isn’t enough drama, her oldest daughter decides she wants to live with her dad and stepmom.

Celeste Wright is the envy of every woman in the community. She is flawless and beautiful and the mother of rambunctious twin boys. Celeste and her successful husband appear to be the perfect couple with an idyllic life, but the secrets they are hiding is purely unconceivable. Celeste is faced with the difficult decision of continuing to hide their secrets or facing her demons as her perfect world comes crumbling down.

Big Little Lies is packed with schoolyard scandal, drama, and enough juicy details to keep you turning the pages. The book is humorous, absorbing, and deliciously disturbing.
