Staff reports | The third annual Charleston Social Media Day (#CHSYOU) on June 30 will include an educational component — panel discussions on crisis communications in Charleston and #squadgoals on how to work with the social community, bloggers and online influencers. The event, which will be held 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Charleston Museum, is a celebration of social media platforms and their use in the promotion of Charleston as a tech-forward city.
“Our goal is to provide an educational opportunity to our social media community, connect people and showcase our savvy social media community, which helps us attract tech businesses and keeps Charleston on the cutting edge,” event founder Katie Wells said in a press release. “Charleston Social Media Day has always been a celebration of social media in the Holy City, and its social media practitioners. We’ve had parties to recognize people, but my passion is education and I’ve always wanted to introduce an educational component into Social Media Day.”
As a way of keeping up with local Social Media Day events, people are encouraged to use the #CHSYOU hashtag and to post what social media means to them.

New video. The local grungemetal band Marytree has a new video that you might want to check out. Drummer David Dietze writes, “The video has a heavy tie to our Charleston roots. Many different locations in and around Charleston are featured in the video and we would love the opportunity for our music to be shared with your listeners. This song has more “Grungy” feel than our normal ‘Grungemetal’ sound … but we are very proud of it and hope you enjoy what you hear and see! Give it a listen via this YouTube video.
