RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME: Nancy Sommer poses for a photo by husband Blane Sommer in front of a black-and-white photo that’s part of renowned photographer Jack Alterman’s outdoor exhibit that illustrates people who work along the 500 block of King Street. The exhibit, which is in the windows of the recently-closed Morris Sokol Furniture store in that block, is across the street from the Sommers’ Magnifilous Toy Emporium, 525 King Street. Drive by the exhibit during the Spoleto Festival or click here: King Street-Faces of the 500 Block. (The above photo was by Andy Brack.)
Here are more taken of various offerings during the Spoleto season. The first two photos by longtime Currents’ friend Leigh Sabine of Mount Pleasant. First is a shot of the cast of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of being Earnest,” which showed at the Dock Street Theatre.
Then she showcases a sight seen by thousands as they walk the night streets of Charleston: The spotlighted top of historic St. Philip’s Church on the aptly-named Church Street.
Contributing photographer Michael Kaynard offers this scene familiar to many — shoppers at the Piccolo Spoleto arts and crafts fair in Marion Square.
Finally, editor Andy Brack shares another shot of photographer Jack Alterman’s series of the faces of the 500 block of King Street.
