CALENDAR, Feb. 22+: Plays, fun walks and more

00_calendar(NEW) “The Secret Garden:” Several shows from Feb. 25 to March 1 with curtain times at 7:30 p.m., except the Sunday show at 2 p.m. The College of Charleston will offer this compelling musical based on the classic children’s story by Frances Hodgson Burnett in the Emmett Robinsom Theatre in the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St., Charleston. “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change:” This new musical comedy and musical by Joe DiPietro will be performed by Midtown Theatre actors in several shows through Feb. 27. (NEW) “A Sudden Spontaneous Event:” Performances from March 4 to March 26, with shows at 7:30 p.m., except the March 19 matinee at 3 p.m. Performances of the play by PURE Theatre playwright-in-residence David Lee Nelson will be at PURE Theatre, 447 King Street, Charleston. Where the Wild Things Run/Walk 5K: 8:30 a.m., March 5, Caw Caw Interpretive Center, Ravenel. Walkers, joggers, and runners are invited to explore their wild side on the scenic nature trails at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. The 5K trail run and walk starts at 8:30 a.m., and an award ceremony with local food and beverages will be held immediately afterward. Kids’ yoga and crafts for ages 6 to 12 will keep children entertained throughout the morning. Online registration ends March 4 at 3 p.m. but will be available on site if space permits. The Seat of Justice: Performances through March 6 at the historic Dock Street Theatre, Charleston. Charleston Stage will perform the remarkable story of citizens who fought for justice and equality through the Briggs v. Elliott litigation, a South Carolina case that was part of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education school desegregation case. Tickets start at $30. More: Charleston Stage.

(NEW) Walk for Water: 10:10 a.m., March 12, starting at Joe Riley Stadium, 360 Fishburne Street, Charleston. Water Missions International will hold its 10th annual water walk to spread awareness about the global water crisis and raise money. Adult registration is $20, with varying levels for students and youths. After the 3.5 mile walk, there will be fun, games and food. Register and learn more.

St. Paddy’s Pawlooza: Noon to 4 p.m., March 12, Wannamaker County Park, North Charleston. St. Patrick’s Day starts a little early this year during a dog-friendly special event that allows people and dogs to have fun. On tap: live music, beverages and food. Cost: $5. Bird walks: 8:30 a.m. to noon, every Wednesday and Saturday. This is the time of year that a great variety of migrating birds fly through the Lowcountry so what better time to take part in one of the regular early morning bird walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel. Pre-registration is suggested. Cost is $10. Walks also are conducted on James Island and Folly Beach. Learn more online.
