All across our country, too many people are wearing blinders on an array of issues that is unraveling the fabric of the American way of life. We are ignoring big problems, hoping they’ll just go away. But they get worse and worse.
Instead of proactively confronting issues from race and gun violence to immigration reform and the decay of our democracy, we keep drinking from the font of ignorance.
Staff reports | The Coastal Community Foundation, a grantmaking organization serving coastal South Carolina, today announced it awarded $4.9 million in grants in year-end giving season, November and December 2016, according to a press release. Responding to the recent letter writer who wrote to laud Gov. Haley’s position to keep out Syrian refugees, I write to remind your readers that whatever your position on the Syrian refugees issue, the decision at the end of the day is not one made by individual states.
Carolyn Kershner: “As we are seeing now in our country, current immigrants are a bit different from those entering our country in the past. Yes, we should extend our welcome to those seeking refuge for their safety, but what we have never had before are members of ISIS who has a goal of destroying Americans and make no bones about it! “
