FEEDBACK: Roads illustrate need for gas tax

FEEDBACK: Roads illustrate need for gas tax

David Brown: In my opinion, it is difficult to find a more perfect example than the need to fund repair of our roads via the gas tax option rather than through the general revenue option. The reasoning unfolds likes this: The roads need fixing.

FEEDBACK: Facebook responds on lint column

A friend from Atlanta writes: “There is ANOTHER issue here as well… ‘Lint’ is largely comprised of microfibers, most of which are pulled into our sewage treatment systems once they pass through the washer. Sadly, these large facilities are oftentimes unequipped to filter those fibers out before the treated water is returned to our rivers and oceans

LETTER: Silent Haley must act on overdose, HIV rates

Elaine Pawlowski: “Gov. [Nikki] Haley’s silence on the overdose epidemic as well as the high rate of HIV in rural communities continues to risk the lives of thousands of South Carolinians. The PBS documentary that aired Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, Wilhemina’s War, paints a bleak picture of those that are infected with HIV in S.C. “

FEEDBACK: Car rental cautions, mad about no Medicaid expansion

To the editor: A couple of other things to be careful of when renting a car – make sure you can drive to the state(s) that you want to go.  I was driving to Florida and one of the car rental places (not at the airport but a national company) prohibited taking the car to Florida. FEEDBACK: Wonderful tribute

Tom Kulick: A wonderful tribute to Leo Fishman this week. My wife and I met Leo and Carol when they first moved to Kiawah. He was a kind and gentle person who enjoyed his life with Carol and all of his friends. I know that Wendy and I will miss him. Thanks for the recognition of Leo’s life and contributions to our society.

LETTERS: On Haley and leadership; old photos

Fred Palm: “South Carolinians will know that Gov. [Nikki] Haley is all grown up when she brings the uninsured into the medical universe of the treated with adequate medical care and when she brings in the uninsured by exercising her option of enrolling S.C. into the Medicare option of the Affordable Care Act.”

Cheryl Smithem: “I love browsing these images from all across S.C. history. :

LETTERS: On state’s new license plate, gun control

Letters for Dec. 28, 2015, issue, include this from Elizabeth Bagby of Charleston: “Overall, I like the new plate with the Anglicized motto. I liked the colors of the previous one better but color costs more, I suppose. This is the fifth plate in +/- 15 years. Why does it keep changing? The single sticker will be nice.”
