CALENDAR: Special markets to be downtown, West Ashley, Mount Pleasant

Staff reports  | Putting a jingle on your stocking is just around the corner with three special holiday markets.

From noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, the West Ashley Farmers Market will return for a special Thanksgiving Market in Ackerman Park, 55 Sycamore Ave.  It will feature fresh local produce, prepared and packaged food products, food trucks, free kids activities, live music by the Bluestone Ramblers, free parking and a blood drive with The Blood Connection. The Thanksgiving market will be the site’s last for the season.

In North Charleston today, Mayor Keith Summey and members of city council will meet at Park Circle for an annual Veterans Day tribute.  Keynote speaker for the event is retired Amr Force Col. John Dorrian, who currently serves as vice president for communications and Marketing for The Citadel.  More.

Staff reports  |  The 18th annual Harvest Festival is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 2 at Johns Island County Park.  

Known for its foot-stompin’ showcase of Charleston’s own bluegrass talent, the festival will offer performances throughout the day will be five bluegrass bands. This year’s lineup will feature entertainment from local performers Blue Plantation, Gravel Road, YeeHaw Junction, Marshgrass Mamas and Red Cedar Review.

The largest area of privately-protected land on James Island, the Dill Sanctuary is a 580-acre wildlife preserve on the Stono River, rich in historic and natural features.
