PHOTO ESSAY: City Gallery features great Piccolo art exhibit

King & Market, by Greg Hart, acrylic on wood panel, 2015.

Staff reports  |  If you’re downtown over the next few days and have a few minutes, you might want to step in to the cool, conditioned air of the City Gallery on Prioleau Street.  It’s featuring a grand variety of more than four dozen works in the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Show – everything from paintings, sculpture, drawing and photographs by South Carolina artists.  Here are some favorites:

Bird 2, by Chris Bilton, 2015

HDT, by William Johnson, graphite, 2015.

The Daydream, by Colleen Critcher, acrylic and oil on canvas, 2016

Don’t Be A Dick (Women’s March, Washington, D.C.), by Micheline Callicott, silver gelatin fibre-based photographic print, 2017

Andy, I share your concern about the Boozepop trucks. In my view, it adds an undesirable image to our city. I was similarly disturbed last week when I flew out of Charleston for the first time since the renovation of the air terminal and noticed that every laptop station in the gate areas carries a prominent ad for some brand of liquor. Isn’t that a bit much?

    Keep up your good work.

    Cordially,
