MYSTERY: Brick and blue sky

The reddish brown of the brick of this building is highlighted against the crisp blue of a winter sky.  If you haven’t seen this building in person, you’ve probably seen photos of it in advertising.  Where is it?  Send your best guess to:  editor@charlestoncurrents.com — and make sure to include the name of the town in which you live. More people from Virginia than South Carolina successfully identified the more recent – and tough – Mystery Photo, a beautiful building in Fernandina Beach, Fla.  Congratulations to George Graf of Palmyra, Va., and Marnie Huger, now of Richmond, Va., for submitting winning guesses.  Hats off also to veteran sleuth Chris Brooks of Mount Pleasant, who got it right again.

In addition to identifying the building on Centre Street, Graf explained that the history of Fernandina Beach is confusing:  “It is the only United States location to have been under 8 different flags.  Its fortunes rose and fell with the fate of Spain, France, England, The Confederate States of America, the English American Colonies and the United States of America.”
