CALENDAR, Jan. 2+: Talks on WestEdge, Hamilton and Laurens

Save the Light oyster roast:  2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 8, Bowen’s Island Restaurant near Folly Beach.  Save the Light will have its annual oyster roast as a fund-raiser to help the organization.  Tickets:  $30 in advance; $35 at the gate.  Order online.

Hamilton and Laurens: 6 p.m., Jan. 12, main library, 68 Calhoun St., Charleston.  Charleston County Public Library historian Nic Butler will look at the Revolutionary War friendship of Charlestonian John Laurens and Alexander Hamilton, as well as Laurens’ remarkable activities during the war.  Free.

Lawrence exhibit:  Jan. 28 to April 30, Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St., Charleston.  The museum will offer a comprehensive overview of influential American artist Jacob Lawrence featuring prints made from 1663 to 2000.  His prints explore African-American culture and experiences and highlight themes of history, labor and life.  More:  GibbesMuseum.org.
