CALENDAR, Feb. 15+: Plays, surf movies, more

00_calendar“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change:” This new musical comedy and musical by Joe DiPietro will be performed by Midtown Theatre actors in several shows through Feb. 27. The Seat of Justice: Performances from Feb. 17 to March 6 at the historic Dock Street Theatre, Charleston. Charleston Stage will perform the remarkable story of citizens who fought for justice and equality through the Briggs v. Elliott litigation, a South Carolina case that was part of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education school desegregation case. Tickets start at $30. More: Charleston Stage.

(NEW) Surf movie party: 8 p.m., Feb. 20, Mellow Mushroom Avondale, Magnolia Road, Charleston. You can watch the surf movie Psychic Migrations and other films as part of this night to save Charleston from the winter blues. There should be giveaways coordinated by Carolina Surf Brand and neat stuff from various partners, as well as food and drink at the pizza restaurant.

Oyster roast: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 20, Dill Sanctuary along the Stono River, 1163 Riverland Dr., James Island. The Charleston Museum will hold its annual roast and barbecue fund-raiser, which will also feature drinks and a tour of Battery Pringle, one of the best preserved examples of a Civil War earthworks. (NEW) Where the Wild Things Run/Walk 5K: 8:30 a.m., March 5, Caw Caw Interpretive Center, Ravenel. Walkers, joggers, and runners are invited to explore their wild side on the scenic nature trails at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. The 5K trail run and walk starts at 8:30 a.m., and an award ceremony with local food and beverages will be held immediately afterward. Kids’ yoga and crafts for ages 6 to 12 will keep children entertained throughout the morning. Online registration ends March 4 at 3 p.m. but will be available on site if space permits. St. Paddy’s Pawlooza: Noon to 4 p.m., March 12, Wannamaker County Park, North Charleston. St. Patrick’s Day starts a little early this year during a dog-friendly special event that allows people and dogs to have fun. On tap: live music, beverages and food. Cost: $5. Bird walks: 8:30 a.m. to noon, every Wednesday and Saturday. This is the time of year that a great variety of migrating birds fly through the Lowcountry so what better time to take part in one of the regular early morning bird walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel. Pre-registration is suggested. Cost is $10. Walks also are conducted on James Island and Folly Beach. Learn more online.
