U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus signs a framed poster that shows the new USS Charleston, which he named during a Friday ceremony at the Charleston Maritime Center. Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, left, also made remarks touting the city’s naval heritage. The new $440 million ship is a state-of-the-art Littoral Combat Ship, a trimaran designed to go into shallow waters that other ships can’t. The ship, soon to be built in Mobile, Ala., is expected to be delivered in 2017. U.S. Navy photo by MC2 (SW/AW) Armando Gonzales, photographer for the Secretary of the Navy.
